KABUL: The deputy head of humanitarian assistance for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), Indrika Ratwatte, stated that the organization is working to include the Islamic Emirate delegation in international climate change conferences.
He made the remarks in a meeting with the general director of the National Environmental Protection Agency, Mawlavi Mati-ul Haq Khalis, the agency said in a statement today.
In the meeting, Ratwatte said that Afghanistan is one of the countries vulnerable to climate change and added that the United Nations will continue its support for Afghanistan in the areas of environment and climate change.
“Climate change and environmental issues are not political topics, and they aim to persuade the global community to resume uplift projects in these areas,” the statement quoted him as saying.
The head of the National Environmental Protection Agency, in the meeting, noted the importance of environmental and climate change issues, expressing the Islamic Emirate’s commitment to jointly collaborate with international organizations on these issues.
