KABUL: Russia has warned that it will conduct military operations against Mujahidin of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) in areas Bashar al-Assad lost control in Syria.
The Russian state-run TASS news agency said that the statement was made by Colonel Oleg Ignatyev, head of the Russian mission in Syria, who indicated that military operations against HTS will continue.
The comments come as Bashar al-Assad’s opponents, led by Hayat Tahrir Sham, have captured several areas in northwestern Syria, including the Aleppo city.
It is noteworthy that Russia is considered a staunch ally of the Syrian government and has been supporting President Bashar al-Assad since 2015.
