KABUL: Antony Blinken, the U.S. Secretary of State, announced a military aid package worth $1.25 billion to Ukraine in the final days of President Joe Biden’s term.
He said on his X account on Monday night that the purpose of this assistance is to equip and arm Ukraine to defend against Russia.
He also noted that this aid is part of a commitment announced by Joe Biden last month (September).
Blinken further added that 50 countries are committed to supporting Ukraine in its defense efforts.
This announcement comes as Russian forces continue their advance in Ukraine, despite the support of dozens of countries, with Russian troops reportedly having captured a village in recent days.
