Tanker explosion leaves 70 dead in Nigeria

KABUL: As a result of a tanker explosion, 70 people lost their lives in Nigeria.

According to the Associated Press, the incident occurred this morning, in the Soldier area of Niger State.

The Nigerian Emergency Response Agency confirmed the event, stating that the explosion happened while dozens of individuals were attempting to siphon fuel from the tanker using a generator.

Officials from the agency noted that the victims were either there to collect fuel or were present at the scene. Search and rescue operations for victims are still ongoing.

Explosions involving tankers are not uncommon in Nigeria.

In September 2024, a similar incident occurred when a tanker collided with a livestock transport vehicle, claiming nearly 50 lives.
