Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Arrest warrant for Leader and Chief Justice of IEA unjust and politically motivated

KABUL: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Friday that the arrest warrant issued against the esteemed Amir al-Mu’mineen Shaikh ul-Hadith Mawlavi Hebatullah Akhundzada and Shaikh Abdul Hakim Haqqani, the Chief Justice of the Islamic Emirate by a ‘prosecutor’ of the International Criminal Court (ICC) is unjust, lacking legal basis, and has political motives.

According to the statement, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan strongly condemned and rejected the allegations presented in the ICC’s warrant as discriminatory.

The warrant was issued at a time when nationwide security has been ensured, with personal prisons, kidnappings, power islands, warlords, and other inappropriate and inhumane activities eliminated, said the statement.

“Regrettably, this institution had turned a blind eye to the war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by foreign forces and their domestic allies during their twenty-year occupation of Afghanistan. Such inappropriate behavior further erodes the already non-existent credibility of the said institution, and renders its status and decisions completely meaningless on the international level,” the statement further said.

This comes after a prosecutor from the ICC issued an arrest warrant yesterday for the esteemed Amir al-Mu’mineen Shaikh ul-Hadith Mawlavi Hebatullah Akhundzada and Shaikh Abdul Hakim Haqqani, the Chief Justice of the Islamic Emirate.
