KABUL: The Ministry of Finance has reported that officials from the General Customs Directorate have seized over 136,000 kilograms of smuggled goods in the past one week.
According to a statement from the ministry on Sunday, the goods were seized in various areas of Nimroz, Farah, Kandahar, Herat, Nangarhar, and Helmand provinces.
“The smugglers intended to import chocolates, fruits, food items such as flour, beans, chickpeas, tomato paste, powdered milk, and various spices for human and animal consumption, clothing, plastic utensils, and other items into the country without paying customs duties,” said the ministry.
Ministry of Finance mentioned that several individuals have been arrested in connection with the seized smuggled goods, but it did not provide specific details on the number of arrests.
This comes as monitoring efforts by civilian staff and armed forces of the Islamic Emirate over ports, hypothetical lines, and borders of the country are being carried out diligently.
