Alexander Lukashenko wins Belarus presidential election

KABUL: The Central Election Commission of Belarus has announced that Alexander Lukashenko, the current president, has won the presidential election once again, said the Russian state-run TASS news agency today.

Igor Karpenko, head of the Central Election Commission, stated that Lukashenko secured 86.82% of the votes, allowing him to be re-elected as the president of the country.

According to the Commission, Lukashenko’s four opponents from the liberal, democratic, entrepreneurial, and republican parties received between 3.6% and 1.74% of the votes.

In the 2020 presidential election, Alexander Lukashenko had also managed to obtain over 80% of the votes.

The Central Election Commission of Belarus is set to announce the final results of the presidential election on February 3.
