KABUL: The Ministry of Water and Energy of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan said in a statement on Wednesday that the Kamal Khan Dam has officially been inaugurated in the Chahar Burjak district of Nimroz province.
A number of high-ranking government officials, scholars, elders and Mujahidin have participated in the dam’s inauguration ceremony, according to the statement.
“The dam has been built by the Ministry of Water and Energy, will irrigate 174,000 hectares of land and generate 6 megawatts of electricity, and has the capacity to store up to 52 million cubic meters of water,” the statement said.
The dam was first built 700 years ago using stones and soil by Kamal Khan, a prominent local leader of the region, and the Islamic Emirate turned the dream of the countrymen into a reality.
