Survey, detailed design work of Kandahar-Herat railway officially kicks off, ministry

KABUL: The survey and detailed design work for the 737.5-kilometer Kandahar-Herat railway, worth 364 million Afghanis, has officially begun today, said spokesman of the Ministry of Public Work Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas.

A ceremony held on this occasion, was attended by the Islamic Emirate spokesperson Mawlavi Zabihullah Mujahid, the Deputy Minister of Public Works for the Railway Line Mawlavi Mohammad Ishaq Sahibzada, local officials, tribal elders, officials of contracting companies, and engineers.

The contractor companies will work on the survey and detailed design of the Herat-Kandahar railway for the next 8 months, the statement said.
