KABUL: Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Iravani, stated at the Security Council’s emergency meeting that Tehran has the “legal and complete right” to defend itself under international law.
The remarks were made in response to the U.S. attack on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities.
Iravani described the day of the U.S. actions as “another shameful chapter” in American political history, adding that Donald Trump “played the most disgraceful role in this scenario.”
He also noted that Iran’s response to the U.S. will be determined by “the timing, nature, and extent” of the military response.
During the meeting, Russia’s permanent representative, Vasily Nebenzia, characterized the actions of the U.S. and Israel as a “blatant insult to the international community” and a “clear violation of international principles.”
He criticized some members of the Security Council for either remaining silent or failing to condemn the attacks.
