Forced expulsion of Afghan migrants leads to destruction of their vacant homes in Karachi

KABUL: According to reports from Pakistani media, following the forced expulsion of Afghan migrants from Pakistan, dozens of their vacant homes in Karachi have been destroyed.

The Express Tribune reported on Wednesday evening, that following the abandonment of homes by Afghan migrants in the “Gulshan-e-Mimar” camp in Karachi, Sindh province, land grabbers attacked these houses but faced resistance from the police, which resulted in the destruction of several homes using heavy machinery.

The report noted that groups of land grabbers, aided by women and children, attempted to seize the homes belonging to Afghan migrants.

The media reported that a one-day police operation escalated into violence, with the land grabbers clashing with security forces using stones and sticks.

Those involved in the land grabs have been referred to as “organized land mafia and opportunists” by Pakistani media.

The report also mentioned that these groups marked their claims of ownership on the walls with paint and entered the homes with household items.

In some areas, groups including women and children erected barriers to prevent police entry and even started fires to halt demolition teams.

This comes as the Afghan government has previously criticized the method of forced expulsion of Afghan migrants, emphasizing the seizure of their movable and immovable assets and the settlement of their long-standing investments in Pakistan.
