KABUL: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar has announced in a statement that Afghan and Pakistani officials have reached an immediate ceasefire agreement in Doha.
The statement further mentioned that both sides have agreed to work on strategies to pave the way for lasting peace and stability.
The agreement and ceasefire were facilitated through the mediation of Qatar and Türkiye, said the statement.
Following the ceasefire agreement, additional follow-up meetings will be held in the future to monitor and ensure its implementation.
After the agreement was reached in Doha, Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif also announced the ceasefire agreement between Afghan and Pakistani officials on his Twitter account. He stated that both countries would respect each other’s territory.
Khawaja Asif’s remarks about mutual respect come amid allegations that the Pakistani military regime has repeatedly violated ceasefire terms and even conducted attacks during the Afghan delegation’s visit to Doha, resulting in the martyrdom of cricketers and civilians in Paktika.
It is noteworthy that the Afghan side in the peace talks is led by the Minister of National Defense, Mawlavi Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid, while the Pakistani delegation includes Defense Minister Khawaja Asif and Director General of the Intelligence Agency, General Asim Munir.
