KABUL: Officials from Iran’s Ministry of Cooperatives, Labor, and Social Welfare have announced that the country has begun issuing work visas to Afghan citizens since the start of the current month of Mezan (October).
According to the Iranian state news agency IRNA on Tuesday night, Sayed Malik Hosseini, Deputy Minister of Cooperatives, Labor, and Social Welfare, stated that this process has been implemented in cooperation with the Ministries of Interior and Foreign Affairs of Iran, utilizing the “Employment of Foreign Nationals” software.
Hosseini explained that this initiative aims to “clarify and monitor the authorized workforce of foreign nationals and prevent illegal entry.”
He mentioned that from the beginning of Mezan 1404 (October 2024), the issuance of work visas, particularly for Afghan nationals, has commenced. Employers can register their requests through the foreign employment system.
Previously, Iranian officials had informed the Afghan Minister of Refugees and Repatriations about the allocation of 200,000 work visas for Afghan workers.
This comes amid reports that the Iranian government has expelled over one million Afghan citizens from the country since the beginning of the current solar year.
