KABUL: Senior officials at the White House have confirmed that the scheduled meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin has been postponed indefinitely, Reuters reported on Tuesday night.
In the meantime, President Trump, speaking to reporters, stated in response to a question about the postponement of his meeting with Putin that he does not wish to have a “meaningless” meeting.
According to Reuters, the meeting was postponed following Russia’s rejection of an immediate ceasefire request in the Ukraine war.
The source indicated that there are no plans for a meeting between President Trump and President Putin in the near future.
It was added that the postponement of the leaders’ meeting at the White House and the Kremlin followed a “constructive” phone call between U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
Previously, Trump had announced that he would soon meet with Putin in Hungary following a phone call with him.
