KABUL: The provincial officials of Helmand have reported that nearly 59 tons of food and non-food items have been seized from illegal imports, including in the provincial capital, Lashkar Gah, and in the districts of Bhramcha and Rabat, in the past week.
According to a statement from the Helmand Department of Information and Culture, the goods were loaded onto 17 vehicles and were intercepted by mobile teams from the Helmand Sub-Customs Department.
Sources indicated that the seized items included human medicines, bananas, lemons, oranges, fish, sugar, and non-food items such as fabric.
“In relation to the aforementioned vehicles and goods, 35 individuals have been detained by the mobile teams and handed over to the relevant authorities after initial investigations,” the statement stated.
It was also mentioned that before this, dozens of individuals had been arrested in the province for illegally transporting goods.
