WFP to assist earthquake victims in Kunar and returning Afghan migrants

KABUL: John Aylieff, the country Director of the World Food Program (WFP) for Afghanistan, met with Mawlavi Noor Jalal Jalali, Minister of Public Health, to discuss assistance for earthquake victims in Kunar and returning Afghan migrants.

According to a statement from the ministry today, discussions focused on the development and enhancement of public nutrition services, ongoing activities and assistance from the WFP, improvement and effectiveness of the public nutrition program, future cooperation, and other related issues.

The WFP director assured his organization’s development and continuity of assistance for the people of Afghanistan.

The statement quoted the Minister of Public Health as saying that the development of public nutrition services is a basic need of the country and calling for sustainable, regular, and genuine assistance in this regard.

Minister Jalali emphasized that the Ministry of Public Health is committed to coordination and joint cooperation with international partner institutions.

The WFP’s commitment to assist earthquake victims and Afghan migrants comes amid ongoing efforts to distribute food and non-food supplies to 18,000 returning migrant families across 18 provinces.
