High Commission for the Fight Against Drugs established in Kandahar

KANDAHAR: The provincial officials of Kandahar province have said that the High Commission for the Fight Against Drugs, led by Mawlavi Mohammad Sadiq Inqalabi, the Deputy Governor of the province has been established.
The Kandahar Governor’s media office said in a statement on Thursday evening that the first meeting of the commission was held with the participation of the Deputy Minister for Drug Control from the Ministry of Interior, Mawlavi Amir Mohammad Hamdard, the head of the Executive Office of the High Commission for Anti-Narcotics, and representatives from 27 government agencies in Kandahar.
The head of the Executive Office stated that the High Commission for the Fight Against Drugs has been established under the command number 31 of the leader of the Islamic Emirate and in accordance with the Drug Control Law.
In the statement, Mr. Hamdard noted that the High Commission is the country’s highest authority for combating drugs and related issues.
He identified the commission’s goal as “effective action against the trafficking, transit, production, and consumption of narcotics.”
This comes at a time when the Afghan government’s efforts to combat drugs have consistently received praise and support from the international community over the past four years. Recently, the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations also visited Kabul and praised these efforts during meetings with officials.
