Qatar’s Foreign Minister holds talks with Ali Larijani on US-Iran tensions in Tehran

KABUL: In ongoing attempts to ease tensions between the United States and Iran, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, Qatar’s Foreign Minister, recently visited Iran to meet with Ali Larijani, the Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.

Qatar News, a reputable Qatari media outlet, reported early today that in the meeting the two officials discussed current efforts to reduce regional tensions.

The Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar emphasized the necessity of coordinated efforts to protect the people of the region from the repercussions of escalating tensions, and they highlighted the importance of diplomacy in resolving conflicts with “brother” and friendly countries.

Al-Thani reiterated Qatar’s support for all initiatives aimed at de-escalation and achieving peaceful solutions to enhance security and stability.

The meeting comes amid comments from U.S. President Donald Trump, who recently stated on Fox News that Iran is currently negotiating with the U.S.

On the other hand, Ali Larijani noted on X that despite “media hype and artificial warfare,” the structure for negotiations with the U.S. appears to be progressing.
