KABUL: In a continuation of U.S. efforts to end the war in Ukraine, a high-level Russian delegation led by Kirill Dmitriev, Russia’s special representative, has met with senior American officials.
Steve Witkoff, the U.S. special representative for Middle Eastern affairs, said in a post on his X that the discussions took place in Florida and expressed optimism that Russia is taking steps toward achieving peace in Ukraine.
Witkoff emphasized that the meeting was part of U.S. mediation efforts. The American delegation included Steve Witkoff, Scott Nishida, the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, and senior White House advisors Jared Kushner and Josh Gronbaum.
The U.S. official described the meeting as “constructive and fruitful” in advancing a peaceful resolution to the war in Ukraine.
This comes amid trilateral peace talks about Ukraine held last week in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, involving Russian and Ukrainian delegations along with American representatives.
An agreement was reached to continue such discussions.
