KABUL: In response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s statement regarding the role of NATO members in the 20-year war in Afghanistan, hundreds of people marched in Denmark.
Reuters reported on Saturday evening, that the demonstrations were held against Trump’s remarks at the U.S. embassy in Copenhagen.
Protesters accused Trump of making “offensive” statements about NATO soldiers who served in Afghanistan.
While displaying service medals and the names of Danish soldiers who lost their lives in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the demonstrators made their voices heard.
One protester, who has a background in the Afghanistan conflict, expressed his feelings, stating, “I lost one of my very close friends and colleagues. That’s why I was hurt by Mr. Trump’s remarks, and I believe he owes an apology to all my combat brothers.”
Previously, Trump’s assertion that NATO allies lagged behind U.S. soldiers on the front lines in Afghanistan sparked strong reactions among leaders of NATO member countries.
This comes as NATO forces withdrew from Afghanistan in 2021 after a 20-year presence, bearing significant human losses and incurring hundreds of billions of dollars in damages.
