KABUL: Dr. Sayed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, has sent a letter to the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the President of the Security Council in response to the U.S. airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
A copy of this letter was released by the Iranian Foreign Ministry today.
In the letter, Araghchi describes the U.S. attack as a “concerning and catastrophic aggression,” emphasizing that it should be condemned by the international community and the Security Council, and that Washington must be held accountable.
The letter states that the attack by a nuclear-armed country on a non-nuclear state that is a member of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons violates resolutions 444, 475, and 533 of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference, as well as Article 56 of the Additional Protocol to the Geneva Convention.
Araghchi asserts that the U.S. government must be held responsible for this criminal attack, which supports a regime led by a war criminal that is pushing the world toward chaos and instability.
The Iranian Foreign Minister warns that such an attack could have “catastrophic” consequences, including “widespread civilian casualties and long-term environmental destruction.”
This incident has drawn widespread international responses following the U.S. airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
