JALALABAD: Police spokesman of Nangarhar Sayed Taib Hammad said in a statement today that as a result of the explosion of an unexploded shell two children lost their lives and two others were wounded.
According to the statement, the explosion occurred in the village of Lamtak in the Dara-e-Noor district of Nangarhar province.
“The incident happened when children from the same family brought an unexploded rocket shell into their home and struck it with an axe,” said the statement.
The health status of the injured children has been described as stable, though no further details about the deceased and injured children have been provided.
Nangarhar police expressed their condolences over the incident and urged residents to notify security agencies if they encounter unexploded objects.
The incident highlights the serious threat posed by landmines and unexploded ordnance in the country, particularly to children.
