KABUL: The acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate, Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, met with Alexander Matheou, Head of the Asia-Pacific Region for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), to discuss strengthening humanitarian cooperation.
Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal, head of the public relation of the ministry said in a statement on Tuesday, in the meeting Muttaqi praised the humanitarian services provided by IFRC in Afghanistan and emphasized the need for continued and effective cooperation to support vulnerable citizens.
He highlighted the recent surge in the return of Afghan refugees from Pakistan and Iran, calling for urgent and coordinated support to provide shelter, clean water, healthcare, and economic opportunities for the returnees.
The acting foreign minister also urged all international aid organizations, including the IFRC, to expand their assistance in these areas.
Meanwhile, Alexander Matheou noted that the IFRC currently supports approximately 300 clinics and hospitals across Afghanistan.
He pledged to expand the support and expressed gratitude for the IEA’s cooperation in delivering humanitarian services fairly and efficiently to the deserving people.
