KABUL: The UK government has abruptly halted its resettlement program for Afghan citizens without prior notice.
The migration and asylum-focused media outlet “Free Movement” reported that the program was suspended at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, July 1, via an internal memo.
This suspension follows amendments made in March to the UK Immigration Rules (ARAP), allowing only specific individuals to submit their applications for resettlement.
Currently, only applications for resettlement submitted between April 1, 2021, and July 1, 2025, are being processed by the UK Ministry of Defence.
No explanation has yet been provided regarding the sudden suspension of the program for Afghan citizens.
Following the fall of the previous government in Afghanistan, several countries initiated resettlement programs to assist their Afghan collaborators.
The Islamic Emirate had previously requested the cessation of such programs to prevent the emigration of skilled individuals from the country.
