Mawlavi Hanafi urged Iranian government to respect rights of Afghan migrants

KABUL: Mawlavi Abdul Salam Hanifi, the Deputy Prime Minister for Administrative Affairs and head of the High Commission for Addressing Migrant Issues, stated that the situation of Afghan returnees from Iran is not good, with each person having their own stories to tell.

According to Radio Omid correspondent, Hanifi made the remarks during a press conference held today regarding the conditions of migrants returning from Iran and the measures being taken to assist them.

He mentioned that the situation of returnees is currently under government control, and essential services are being provided at temporary settlements.

Mawlavi Hanafi, who recently visited the conditions of returnees at the Islam Qala and Pul-e-Abreshem crossings in Herat and Nimroz provinces, assured free transportation for migrants to their main areas.

He added that based on a decision by the Islamic Emirate, a plot of land will be granted to each returning migrant, and those who transfer their investments from host countries to Afghanistan will receive a five-year tax exemption.

Hanafi announced that 140,000 jeribs of land have been allocated for the construction of 35 residential complexes for migrants in 25 provinces, with construction work currently ongoing.

He called on Iranian government officials to respect the rights of Afghan migrants.

Mawlavi Hanafi noted that daily, around 30,000 migrants return through the Islam Qala crossing and 10,000 through the Pul-e-Abreshem, with the total number of returnees in the past month exceeding half a million.

This comes as Afghan officials describe the treatment of returnees in Iran as inhumane.
