KABUL: Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, has held a telephone conversation with Dr. Sayed Abbas Araghchi, his Iranian counterpart.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate said in a statement today that the foreign ministers of Afghanistan and Iran discussed recent developments in Afghanistan-Pakistan relations, with Araghchi emphasizing the importance of resolving differences between Kabul and Islamabad through diplomacy.
The statement noted that the Afghan Foreign Minister expressed the Islamic Emirate’s principled position, stating that Afghanistan does not seek war, but that it was the Pakistani side that initiated the conflict by violating Afghanistan’s sovereignty.
He highlighted that a high-level Afghan delegation, led by the National Defense Minister, is negotiating with Pakistan in Doha, and Kabul is respectfully awaiting the results of these discussions.
The Iranian Foreign Minister expressed satisfaction with the initiation of talks between Afghan and Pakistani officials and stated his country’s readiness for cooperation.
It is noteworthy that this is the third time in the past week that Iranian officials have commented and reacted to developments in Afghanistan-Pakistan relations.
