World Education Day: EU announces €45 million aid to Afghanistan

KABUL: On the occasion of World Education Day, the European Union has announced €45 million in aid aimed at supporting education for children in Afghanistan.

The EU representative office in Afghanistan said in a statement today that €20 million of the announced aid will be invested in public schools in Afghanistan to ensure these institutions remain conducive environments for learning.

An additional €25 million will be allocated for the nutrition of Afghan students in schools.

The statement indicated that €20 million will be used for teacher protection and improving services such as water, sanitation, and hygiene in schools, while another €25 million will enhance the nutritional status of both male and female students, enabling their families to remain more resilient.

The EU has specified that the announced aid will be channeled through the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Food Programme (WFP).

The union emphasized its commitment to supporting systems that keep children on the learning path.

According to the global calendar, January 24 marks World Education Day, which is celebrated annually to highlight the importance of education in life around the world.
