Fire in Jalalabad market; Assets worth 20 million Afghanis saved

JALALABAD: A fire broke out in the “Azim Saadat” market in Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar province, local officials confirmed.

According to a statement from the governor’s press office, the firefighting police forces of the province have successfully contained the blaze that occurred in a market in the Dosaraka area of the province.

The fire destroyed goods worth approximately 1.4 million Afghanis, but authorities said assets valued at around 20 million Afghanis were successfully saved.

Officials called the cause of the fire an electrical short circuit.

Authorities added that firefighting units, equipped with modern tools and technical training, remain prepared to respond to complex fire emergencies across the country.
