Hanafi urges WHO to strengthen healthcare sector, and establish a well-equipped cancer treatment center

KABUL: The Deputy Prime Minister for Administrative Affairs Mawlavi Abdul Salam Hanafi, through a video conference met with Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, and Dr. Hanan Balkhy, Regional Director of (WHO), Arg said in a statement today.

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, expressing gratitude over the comprehensive cooperation of the Islamic Emirate with his led organization, said that polio is a major threat to the region and world, and fortunately, the disease has been largely eradicated in Afghanistan, said the statement.

“World Health Organization (WHO) would continue its activities with Afghanistan’s health sector, which requires further cooperation of the IEA with this organization,” the statement quoted him.

According to the statement, Dr. Hanan Balkhy, speaking about WHO’s cooperation in different sectors including strengthening polio diagnosis laboratories and providing fellowship opportunities for health sector specialists in Afghanistan said that WHO is working to strengthen health centers across the country.

Meanwhile, Mawlavi Abdul Salam Hanafi appreciated WHO’s continuous assistance and cooperation with the people of Afghanistan and said that after the re-establishment of the Islamic Emirate, countrywide security has been ensured, cultivation, trafficking, trade and use of narcotics is eradicated, administrative corruption is eliminated, and drug addicts have been collected and treated, and a secure environment to the technical teams of polio in order to vaccinate and eradicate the disease is provided across the country.

Administrative Deputy Prime Minister urged officials of WHO to strengthen the healthcare sector, cooperate in installing well-equipped laboratories, establish health clinics in remote areas of the country, improve professional capacity of health sector specialists and establish a well-equipped hospital for the treatment of cancer in Afghanistan.
