Mirziyoyev: Uzbekistan to continue constructive policy toward Afghanistan

KABUL: Uzbekistan will continue its constructive and balanced policy toward Afghanistan, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has said.

Speaking at a ceremony marking the 35th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s independence, Mirziyoyev emphasized Tashkent’s commitment to maintaining a balanced and multilateral foreign policy toward Kabul.

The Uzbek president also said that Uzbekistan will assume the chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement for the first time from 2027 to 2029, adding that Tashkent plans to introduce new initiatives to increase the organization’s effectiveness.

The remarks come as Uzbekistan has adopted a constructive approach toward Afghanistan since the Islamic Emirate returned to power, particularly in expanding trade, economic cooperation, and regional connectivity with the country.
