KABUL: Rescue teams in Nepal, with assistance from specialists from China and India, are working to rescue hundreds of people trapped inside tunnels and at hydropower projects following devastating floods, Reuters reported.
According to Nepalese officials, rescue efforts are primarily focused on 933 workers believed to be trapped across 11 hydropower projects, including six tunnels, in the severely affected Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts.
Officials said rescue teams are using drilling equipment and controlled explosions in an effort to open blocked tunnels and reach those trapped inside.
Meanwhile, Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said around 590 foreign nationals from 39 countries remain missing.
According to reports, the devastating floods that struck Nepal and parts of China last week have killed more than 900 people, while nearly 5,000 others remain missing.
