As U.S. Midterm Elections near, some Republicans distance themselves from Trump

KABUL: As the U.S. midterm elections approach, about two-thirds of Republican candidates in closely contested congressional races have sought to distance themselves from Donald Trump on some policies or downplay their ties to the president, Reuters reported.

According to a Reuters assessment, Republican candidates have distanced themselves to some extent from Trump in 41 of 62 closely contested races.

Republicans are seeking to retain their majority in Congress, but Trump’s declining popularity could pose an electoral challenge for candidates from his party.
