Houthi missile attack on Riyadh airport claims lives, injures dozens of pilgrims

KABUL: A number of pilgrims traveling to Saudi Arabia to visit Islamic holy sites have lost their lives or been injured after a missile attack by Yemen’s Houthis targeted Riyadh airport.

Reuters reported that 13 people have lost their lives and 300 others were wounded in Saturday’s missile strike on the airport’s departure terminal.

Images from the scene showed large numbers of passengers wearing white ihram garments at the time of the attack, indicating that they were preparing to travel to Mecca.

Reuters, citing Saudi media, reported that a Bangladeshi imam who was leading a group of pilgrims was among those who lost their lives.

The attack also prompted some pilgrims to change their travel plans.
