HERAT: The Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, during his visit to the country’s western province of Herat, kicked off the remaining work of the Pashdan dam worth $117 million, his office said in a statement the other day.
The project was inaugurated on Sunday with the participation of IEA officials.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony Mullah Baradar said that they have a strong firm for the management of the country’s natural resources.
The remaining water dam projects in the country have been evaluated by the Islamic Emirate and we are committed to their completion, said Deputy PM Baradar adding that the Pashdan dam holds vital importance for Herat province.
It should be noted that upon the completion of the canal dam project, thousands of people will be directly or indirectly provided with employment opportunities.
This dam has a capacity of 54 million cubic meters of water and in addition to irrigating 13,000 hectares of agricultural land, it will also generate 2 megawatts of electricity.
