Islamic Emirate fully prepared to accept Afghan prisoners from Iran

KABUL: The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is fully prepared to accept Afghan prisoners from Iran, a delegation of the IEA Supreme Court said in Iran, according to a statement from the court on Monday.

A delegation from the Supreme Court led by the court’s deputy Shaikh Abdul Malik Haqqani, during their visits to Iran, made the remarks in a meeting with the Minister of Justice of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to the statement, both parties discussed the enhancement and strengthening of judicial cooperation between Afghanistan and Iran, the reconsideration of the death penalty for Afghan prisoners, and the resolution of banking issues for migrants in a number of Iran’s cities.

The Islamic Emirate delegation urged Iranian officials to expedite the process of transferring Afghan prisoners once their identities have been confirmed.

Mr. Haqqani mentioned that some Afghan citizens enter Iran to escape legal prosecution after committing crimes in their home country, emphasizing the need for the authorities of Iran to cooperate in their extradition. It is expected that 1,500 Afghan prisoners will be transferred from Iran to Afghanistan, in the near future.
