KABUL: The acting Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, Mawlavi Attaullah Omari, in a meeting with Stephen Rodriques, the head of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) on Saturday, discussed the implementation of projects in irrigation and alternative livelihoods for farmers.
According to a statement from the ministry, the meeting discussed the implementation of irrigation projects, poppy alternatives, construction of irrigation canals and channels, establishment of greenhouses, distribution of seeds and agricultural equipment for farmers.
Referring to the management of the country’s water resources, Minister Omari emphasized that the construction of canals, irrigation canals,and water reserves along the Kunar, Amooz, Murghab and Harirud rivers should be used in the agricultural sector.
At the same time, Mawlavi Attaullah Omari called for the implementation of future UN projects, taking into account agriculture, livestock, climate change, drip irrigation, processing of agricultural products, cooperation with the private sector, and livestock.
Stephen Rodriques assured UNDP’s commitment to implementing projects and coordinating activities as much as possible.
