KABUL: As a result of a stampede at a train station in New Delhi, India, on Saturday, resulted in 15 fatalities and 15 injuries, Indian officials have confirmed to local media.
According to Indian police, the chaos erupted when a large number of people rushed to the railway station to participate in a religious ceremony in the city of “Prayagraj.”
Women and children are among the victims of the incident.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his concerns in a message regarding the incident and extended his condolences to the victims’ families.
Police investigations into the incident have begun.
Such stampedes due to overcrowding are not unprecedented in India, given that the country has one of the largest populations in the world.
