Russia presents conditions for accepting ceasefire with Ukraine to U.S.

KABUL: The Russian government has submitted several conditions to the U.S. for accepting a ceasefire with Ukraine.

Reuters reported today that sources familiar with the matter revealed that the specifics of Russia’s conditions have not yet been made public, and it remains unclear whether Moscow will be ready, or not, to confirm a ceasefire with Kyiv before the conditions are accepted.

The sources noted that Russia’s new conditions are the same as their previous demands made during negotiations with the U.S. and NATO.

Previously, Russia had insisted on halting the war in Ukraine by requiring that Ukraine not join NATO, prohibiting the deployment of foreign troops, and formally annexing Crimea and other occupied territories in Ukraine.

This comes as, following Ukraine’s confirmation of a 30-day ceasefire agreement, the U.S. President warned Russia that if it refuses to accept the ceasefire, its economy will face devastating sanctions.
