KABUL: Officials from Afghanistan and India have agreed to designate trade attach\u00e9s in each other’s embassies to enhance trade relations between the two countries.
The Indian news network The Print recently reported this agreement following the visit of Nooruddin Azizi, Afghanistan’s Minister of Industry and Commerce, to India, where he met with Indian ministers of foreign affairs, industry, and commerce.
M. Anand Prakash, Joint Secretary in the India Foreign Ministry’s Pakistan-Afghanistan-Iran division, confirmed this in a press conference.
Mr. Prakash stated that in yesterday’s meetings (with Azizi and various ministers), both sides agreed to appoint trade attach\u00e9s to facilitate commercial coordination. He noted that Indian companies are not unfamiliar with the Afghan market. “We welcome the Afghan government’s decision to invite Indian companies to invest in the mining sector and other valuable sectors,” he added.
The appointment of trade attach\u00e9s by Kabul and New Delhi has been interpreted as a sign of warming relations between the two countries.
During his trip to India, the Afghan Minister of Industry and Commerce also met with senior government officials as well as representatives from the private sector, apparently to encourage them to invest in various opportunities in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
