KABUL: At least 13 people have martyred and nine others were injured due to severe weather and natural disasters, across Afghanistan over the past 48 hours, officials said.
According to a statement from Mohammad Yousuf Hamad, spokesperson for the National Disaster Management Authority, the casualties were caused by heavy rainfall, flash floods, landslides, and lightning across 10 provinces.
He added that the disasters also caused significant damage to infrastructure and property. A total of 94 homes were completely destroyed and 107 partially damaged, while 17 water networks and 12 kilometers of roads were also affected.
Agricultural losses were substantial, with more than 2,000 jeribs of farmland and orchards destroyed, along with the loss of over 230 livestock in Kabul, Bamyan, Paktia, Ghor, Badghis, Balkh, Samangan, Sar-e-Pul, Jowzjan, and Baghlan provinces.
Hamad noted that over the past month, disaster-related incidents have resulted in 227 martyrdom and 309 injuries nationwide.
