Construction of road connecting Afghanistan with China will be completed in 3 months

KABUL: Officials of the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MoRRD) said on Wednesday that the construction of the road connecting Afghanistan with China in the Wakhan district of Badakhshan province will be completed in the next year’s spring.

Acting Minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development Mohammad Younus Akhundzada, said in a press conference on Wednesday at the Government Media and Information Centre (GMIC) that construction of this road is an essential project for country’s economy.

Akhundzada adds that the road connecting Afghanistan to China, with a length of 47.7 kilometres, starts from the “Bazhaigonbad” area in Wakhan District and extends to the China border.

According to Mr. Akhundzada’s speech, currently 40 kilometres of the mentioned road has been constructed, while 7.7 kilometres will be built in the spring of 1403 (2024).

 “The construction of the road connecting Afghanistan to China will have positive impact on the living conditions of the residents along the road,” Mohammad Younus Akhundzada, said.

Meanwhile, Mawlavi Mirza Mohammad Shakib, head of the office of Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development, says that the construction of check dams is currently underway by the ministry in 13 provinces of the country.

He added these dams cost 365 million Afghanis, and with their completion the damage of drought will be reduced in the country.

“The construction of a water dam worth 2 billion Afghanis started in Khashrood district of Nimroz province,” he said.

It has been said, that with the construction of the dam, over 14,000 acres of agricultural land will be irrigated in Nimroz.

At the same time, the officials of the Ministry said that the construction of a water dam was completed by 30 percent in Qads district of Badghis province. Mirza Mohammad Shakib said the water dam worth 13 million US dollars.

The Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development is one of the key ministries responsible for the development of rural areas in Afghanistan.
