KABUL: The Deputy of Art and Culture of Ministry of Information and Culture, says that the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will expand its activities current year in Afghanistan.
Head of UNESCO for Afghanistan Patricia McPhillips, made the remarks in a meeting with Deputy Minister of Culture and Art Mawlavi Atiqullah Aziz, the ministry said in a statement yesterday.
The statement quoted McPhillips as saying that “UNESCO has expressed its commitment to the preservation of cultural and historical identity of Afghanistan”.
He added that as part of the specific plan, UNESCO has started its activities to strengthen the Minaret of Jam in Ghor, the historical sites of Bamyan and other provinces.
“UNESCO is ready to support capacity building of Afghan artists, including calligraphers, painters, miniaturists and other artistic sectors,” the statement quoted McPhillips as saying.
In the meeting, Mawlavi Azizi shared the Islamic Emirate two years’ activities in the preservation and restoration of historical monuments.
Worth mentioning that, the country’s Ministry of Information and Culture has recently increased the restoration work of some historical monuments at risk.
