KABUL: The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology said that in the past two years, nearly 6 million SIM cards have been registered.
Spokesman of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology Enayatullah Alokozai said that in the past two years, nearly 2.3 million new SIM cards have been distributed throughout the country.
He says that the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology has established SIM card registration centers in remote areas of the country.
“In the last two years, nearly 6.5 million SIM cards have been distributed in rural areas of the country. These SIM cards are from different telecommunication companies and they have been advised to share monthly information regarding the sold SIM card with the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology,” he said.
There are currently active centers and branches of telecommunication companies in 34 provinces of the country, he said adding now SIM card buyers can obtain SIM cards with a guarantor in the absence of an electronic identity card or passport.
“Anyone who has an electronic identity card can get four to five SIM cards. Currently, we have five active communication networks, so a person can get 20-25 SIM cards on this basis,” he added.
Expressing pleasure over the services provided by the ministry Kabul citizens asked the ministry for more facilities in providing SIM cards in the remote areas.
The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology made the remarks while there were rumors that recently the Ministry has stopped the SIM card distribution process.
The ministry told at the government accountability program that it has stopped sales of 98 percent of illegal SIM cards in the country.
