KABUL: The first paralysis (polio) diagnosis center has been inaugurated and started operation in Kabul the capital, the Ministry of Public Health said in a statement yesterday.
The diagnosis center was inaugurated yesterday [Thursday] by the acting Minister of Public Health Dr. Qalandar Ebad, in the Kabul Central Laboratories’ building.
Dr. Qalandar Ebad said: “The inauguration of polio diagnosis center is an example of the commitment of the Ministry of Public Health and the Islamic Emirate towards providing healthcare services to the people of the country,” said the statement.
He added that the ministry is determined to eradicate polio in 2024 in the country. The center has been built with the cooperation and support of the Polio International Laboratories Network (Eastern Mediterranean Region, WHO).
Afghanistan is one of the three countries in the world where there are still positive cases of polio.
