KABUL: The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock in a statement said yesterday that 43,000 metric tons of lemon, tangerine, and mandarin have been harvested in the country.
The citrus fruits have been harvested in Nangarhar, Laghman, Kunar, Uruzgan, Takhar and Kunduz provinces.
“From a total of 54,000 hectares of orchards in Nangarhar, Laghman and Kunar, 12,361 metric tons of tangerine and mandarin have been obtained, according to the statement.
Meanwhile, figures from the Central Statistics Department of the Ministry of Agriculture indicate that from a total of 316,000 hectares of oranges orchards in Nangarhar, Laghman, Kunar and Uruzgan provinces 22,908 metric tons of oranges have been obtained.
On the other hand, from a total of 751 hectares of lemon orchards in Nangarhar, Laghman, Kunar, Uruzgan, Takhar, and Kunduz provinces 725 metric tons of lemons have been obtained.
The production of citrus fruits, has been increasing in recent years in the country.
