KABUL: The Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund met with Pino Arlacchi, Former Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Arg said in a statement on Monday.
In the meeting, Pino Arlacchi praised the Islamic Emirates’ efforts on counter-narcotics.
According to the statement, both sides discussed the Islamic Emirate’s fight against drugs and international cooperation in this regard in future international forums.
Alarcchi stated that the international community must assist the Islamic Emirate in providing alternative crops for Afghan farmers.
The former Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime added that they are planning to hold an international conference in Kabul in the near future and through the conference, international financial support in the field of alternative poppy cultivation for Afghan farmers would be attracted.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that as a result of the Islamic Emirate’s efforts, in the past two and a half years the cultivation and trafficking of drugs in the country have nearly reached zero.
