KABUL: Over 50,000 carats of Panjshir emerald, worth $3.629 million, were sold in the 1402 solar year, the provincial Mine and Petroleum Department of the province said in a statement the other day.
According to the statement, in the past year, $362,977 was deposited into the government treasury as transit fees of the Panjshir extracted emeralds mines. This includes a 10% transit fee that the department has acquired from the sale of over 50,000 carats of emerald.
Currently, efforts are underway for the extraction of gold, silver, ruby, and iron mines in Panjshir, said the statement adding that thousands of people are employed in the mining sector, especially in the emerald mines of Panjshir.
