MoU signed between Afghanistan and Pakistan to facilitate trade and transit cooperation

KABUL: The Acting Minister of Industry and Commerce, Nooruddin Azizi, in a meeting with Pakistan’s Deputy Minister of Commerce, Mohammad Khurram Agha, discussed strengthening bilateral trade and transit cooperation between the two countries.

In the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the two sides for strengthening trade, transit facilitations, and economic ties.

The two sides emphasized on not connecting politics with trade, and stressed for promoting bilateral trade, transit, easing customs procedures, and addressing challenges related to trade facilitation, transit routes, and other relevant issues. 

Also, the two sides, according to the Memorandum agreed on the finalization of APTA (Asia Pacific Trade Agreement ) within two months, the preparation of facilities for the transfer of goods from international containers to local containers in Karachi port, tariff priorities for eight agricultural and two industrial goods, a trial period in the form of a Temporary free license for truck movement for the year, transfer of goods in transit through the airports of both countries, cessation of barter trading, agreements on coal exports to Pakistan and many other areas. 

The Pakistani side has promised that its country will remove the obstacles in from the ways of Afghan businessmen.
