Putin dismisses defense minister Shoigu

KABUL: Russian President Vladimir Putin has recently dismissed his country’s Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu from his position, media reported.

Shoigu had held the position of Russian Defense Minister for approximately 12 years.

It is said that Putin has removed his long-time ally with the aim of appointing him as Secretary of the National Security Council, which is one of the most powerful institutions in the country’s government.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed Andrey Belousov, the Deputy Prime Minister of the country, as Defense Minister.

Belousov, who has been a key and trusted individual of Putin during his leadership in the Kremlin for over two decades, has mostly worked in the economic sectors.
