Imposed sanctions on Afghanistan’s banking sector by world countries had negative impacts on financial stability, Mullah Badri

KABUL: The Acting Governor of Da Afghanistan Bank Mullah Hedayatullah Badri in a meeting with Rosemary DiCarlo, the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General for political affairs, discussed the economic situation, financial and banking sectors, DAB said in a statement today.
In the meeting, Mullah Hedayatullah Badri, shed light on the overall economic situation of the country and discussed in detail the achievements, challenges, and solutions of the country’s financial and banking sector, said the statement.
“The sanctions imposed on Afghanistan’s banking sector by international countries have had negative impacts on the country’s financial stability and have caused more damage to the people, these sanctions have weakened the purchasing power of the people and have created problems for the country’s banking system in accessing the international financial and banking systems,” he said.
Badri said: “Although Da Afghanistan Bank has been able to better manage the liquidity problems of the banking sector in these difficult circumstances and has made progress in this regard, and the situation is improving day by day, the existence of international sanctions has led to international transactions being carried out through unofficial channels, contrary to the laws, regulations, and policies of Da Afghanistan Bank.”
He described the lifting of restrictions on the country’s banking sector as a human right and called it as the demand of all Afghans.
Considering the development of financial services and the cooperation of the countries of the world, especially financial and banking institutions, important, he said that Da Afghanistan Bank has created a legal and regulatory framework based on Islamic principles for the development of small loans so that people can receive small loans under easy conditions and expand their businesses.
Badri said that small-scale finance helps the economic growth of the community, job creation, and many other areas, as well as we expect that international institutions will pay attention to this sector and play a positive role in improving Afghanistan’s economy and upholding human rights through this.
Meanwhile, Rosemary DiCarlo, the UN Deputy Secretary-General, pledged continued cooperation with Afghanistan. She called the role of the banking sector in economic growth as important and said that using the experiences of other countries and strengthening the private sector in the development of financial services, providing small loans, and Islamic financing are very important and require joint work.
